CLASS AUDITIONS
Woodwind & Brass
Date: Monday, 3/11/19
Time: Students will sign-up for individual audition times at their band room. Plan on waiting in line.
Materials: You may choose between the General Band Audition -OR- the Wind Ensemble Audition.
GENERAL BAND AUDITION
Materials:
1. Major Scales: You may choose up to 5 one-octave scales. If you don't want to play 5, you don't have to. Pick the scales you sound the best on.
2. Articulation Exercises: Play the articulation pattern 3 times in a row with a metronome (96bpm). You may do it on any note you wish. See score rubric
3. Lyrical Etude: (Available here)
WIND ENSEMBLE AUDITION
If you want to be considered for Wind Ensemble, you must do this audition.
Materials:
1. Major Scales: Same as the GMEA 11th-12th grade requirement. Note there is no tempo requirement but is a 2 minute limit.
2. Chromatic Scale: Same as the GMEA 11th-12th grade scale requirements
3. Articulation Exercises: See score rubric
4. Lyrical Etude: (Available here)
Notes: The woodwind/brass audition is meant to be a thorough examination of each student's individual ability. We suggest that you approach the audition with the mindset that you are trying to accumulate as many points (up to 85) as possible. The stronger a player you are, the more points you should accumulate. If you need to play your scales slowly, this is fine. If your chromatic range is limited, this is totally normal. Remember that there is a wide range of abilities in our band program. Based on your audition, we will place you in the most appropriate class for your exhibited skill set.
THIS IS A LOW PRESSURE AUDITION.
YOU CAN ONLY GAIN POINTS!
